Local Nature Partnerships unite in Parliament to champion nature recovery

December 4, 2025

The Oxfordshire Local Nature Partnership brought together 20 Local Nature Partnerships in Parliament for the Local Nature Recovery APPG, welcoming over 20 MPs and five Peers from all major parties. The event showcased how LNPs deliver exceptional value for money, accelerate Local Nature Recovery Strategies, and position nature as an enabler of sustainable growth.

The Oxfordshire Local Nature Partnership (OLNP) hosted a landmark event in the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday 3 December, bringing together 20 Local Nature Partnerships (LNPs) from across England for the Local Nature Recovery All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) — an initiative established by OLNP.

The event highlighted the vital role LNPs play in delivering Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS), the cornerstone of achieving national ambitions like 30x30. LNPs provide exceptional value for money, leveraging private finance for nature recovery, integrating nature into health systems, and connecting councils, farmers, and conservation organisations.

As cross-sector partnerships, LNPs disprove the myth that nature is a blocker to growth. Instead, they enable sustainable development and align with Natural England’s new strategy.

Areas with established LNPs have moved faster and more cost-effectively in preparing LNRS and are now leading delivery planning. However, many counties still lack an LNP, and existing partnerships often rely on goodwill from local councils or wildlife trusts. A small amount of support could unlock their full potential.

The event, supported by the Local Nature Recovery APPG chaired by Pippa Heylings MP, welcomed over 20 MPs and five Peers from all major parties, fostering strong connections and a united voice to put nature as an enabler at the heart of local decision-making.

Key asks from the event include:

  • Embed LNRS in decision-making
  • Fund LNRS delivery (including fixing ELM)
  • Provide support strengthening demand drivers for private finance

Thanks to Matthew Stanton (Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Turst), Robin Teverson, Richard Benwell, Elliot Chapman-Jones, and all who attended for making this a pivotal moment for nature recovery.
